Hello,
I first experienced the Arts & Entertainment industry learning ballet from a young age, under the tutelage of Inara Svalbe. Unlike other dance schools at the time, our end of year concert was a two act ballet, with a stage full of beautiful cut cloths and stunning costumes - I was captivated.
After high school, I found contemporary dance with choreographer, Claire Marshall. Whilst studying a Bachelor of Interior Design (QUT), Claire encouraged me to pursue my love of live performance and design. Following a youth development project with Claire, I designed the set for Flaunt.
I have been with Iceworks Design for the past 10 years, developing my expertise in set design for theatre and well as construction design for many clients in the Arts & Entertainment industry. It’s a little known fact my first 2 years at IWD were spent in the workshop as a trade assistant, learning how sets are built so I could become a more skilled designer in the long run. Mentored in construction design by Gavin Hampstead, I now provide consultation and construction solutions to clients including Opera Queensland, Queensland Ballet, SK Entertainment, HOTA Children’s Gallery, State Library of Queensland, and The Empire Theatre.
Over the past five years I have had the incredible opportunity to provide Set and Costume Design for SK Entertainment’s Friends! the Musical Parody, Set Design for Menopause The Musical, Mamma Mia, Roger & Hammerstein's Cinderella for The Empire Theatre, and returning to the Empire’s creative team this year for Come From Away.
When I provide a creative concept design, I also present it with detailed shop drawings to allow for accurate quoting. Throughout my career I have learnt the immeasurable value of meticulous detail, becoming well versed in turning concept designs into practical resolutions. This skill set affords me the ability to design to budget, clearly communicate ideas & solutions, and provide memorable visual experiences. I have a deep passion for conveying emotive and imaginative narratives through design and find the process of creative problem-solving highly rewarding. There is no replacement for live performance and the stories we tell on the stage.
